It is on display through Jan. 15 in the rare book cases in Pequot Library’s Reading Room.
On display will be primary source material dating from 1493 – early 1900s. The exhibition, includes more than 20 of Pequot Library’s rare books about Columbus and his expeditions, including a facsimile of a letter he wrote about his 1492 journey.
Pequot Library Heather-Marie Montilla says, “Respecting the fact that he is a controversial figure today, we want to recognize Columbus as a significant figure in history. He was an amazing navigator, sailor, and self-promoter. We want to look at him through primary source material from his own time, helping the public form their own perspectives.”
There will be a free reception from 5-7 p.m. Saturday in honor of the display.
